Worst Christmas
I am usually a very “in-the-spirit” person around Christmas. This year however I am just very unhappy. I don’t know what exactly it is that is bothering me but I can’t wait for this year to end. It is safe to say at this point that 2008 is officially the worst overall year of my life.
It’s odd too because so many seemingly good things happened this year. I got hired in at Ninth Wave. I moved out. I got my license. I met many new people some of whom became really good friends. Even now close to the end of the year so much is happening that is exciting.
At the end of the day my life seems to be heading somewhere. Right now I am not who I need/want to be. I do not have any money. I can not be who my friends and the people I care about need me to be. I am definitely not who God needs me to be. I am optimistic for the year 2009 but right now I am fighting off depression and conflicting emotions/feelings.
We will see how things go. No Christmas list. This year is all about my New Years Resolutions.

Okay so there is a whole section being added to Student News Net that is going to feature me as “Ask Matt” and this is a flier being run at a ping pong tournament in Chicago. Subscribers will be able to call in and talk to me and my friends. I will also be the primary journalist writing articles and reviews in this section. Exciting!

World Browser Wars II:
Okay people seriously things are heating up. It started with the strong rise of popularity from the Firefox browser which we have all gotten used to. However with the release of Google Chrome and it’s improvements to JavaScript and overall performance the browser people are all scrambling for the crown again.
It is just beginning but this time instead of a race for new and better features while ignoring web standards it is a race for complete standards compliance guided by the ACID tests with a MAJOR focus on performance. As JavaScript and DOM rendering get faster applications will get bigger, better, and more complex. This is the second world war for browsers and I cannot wait to see as this situation pushes us closer to using the web as a complete solution for virtualized cloud environments.
ASIDE: Anyone interested should google gOS and their new product to debut with the Gigabyte Netop. It is called Cloud and will be an OS that boots right up to a browser in seconds. The cloud is upon us all and I am ready to embrace it.
Maximizing my personal value
Okay so since I have started getting these opportunities at work to do web design stuff I have been really putting a lot of effort towards being impressive and ever improving. I am trying to really maximize my value as a team member and get a chance to contribute to big projects.
SO after completing the Photo Library for StudentNewsNet and then the Eagles Youth Partnership site I am now being transitioned over to manage the entirety of SNN. I am pretty excited about it. I think this is a huge opportunity for this company considering Britannica as a company is so widely known and respected. At the same time it is a huge opportunity for me to step up and impress some people over there as well as right here in my office.
More to come, for now I have to keep digging and clawing at the current SNN code until I have my mind wrapped around how it functions.
Eagles Youth Partnership
This is the second project that I have worked on as a programmer at work. I am fairly happy with it. It is a mostly static site so it didn’t need to be very complicated but I did use some new techniques with combining XSLT with XML in order to achieve fluid transitions between Spanish and English. Theres a lot I have learned already since finishing a week ago that I would change but I have to move on.
MySpace Break
So I have decided to take a break from MySpace. Being someone who sits at a computer to work for many hours; it is just a huge distraction to me. On the plus side I think I will begin posting on my Tumblr again. I prefer it any ways. To anyone who finds my blog but does not know what Tumblr it you should really sign up and start using it. It is a very amazing blogging application with a neat way to follow peoples blogs all from your dashboard.

What “WWW” stands for in Japan ?
61.2% of the Japanese in their 20’s thinks “www” is LOL or laugh out loudly , as against the rest 38.8% who thinks it as “the world wide web”. However among the 30’s the ratio was reversed.I did not know that.
This is one of the most interesting tidbits of information I think I have ever read.
